Specialized Fee Waivers
The University of Utah’s Graduate School, in partnership with the Office of Admissions, will waive the graduate admissions application fee for students that qualify for one of the following:
Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program
This is a U.S. Department of Education TRIO program at approximately 200 institutions across the United States and Puerto Rico. The program is designed to prepare undergraduate students for doctoral studies through involvement in research and other scholarly activities.
McNair Scholars qualify for a graduate admissions application fee waiver by:
- Completing the online “ApplyYourself” admission application and identifying that you
are a McNair scholar in the “Additional Information” section.
- Upload a McNair verification form signed by your McNair Program Director.
- Once the form is uploaded and verified by the Graduate Admissions staff, your application fee will be waived.

Vietnam Education Foundation
The Vietnam Education Foundation is a program that provides opportunities for Vietnamese Fellows to pursue graduate studies in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields in the United States.
Vietnam Education Foundation (VEF) Fellows qualify for a graduate admissions application fee waiver by:
- Completing the online “ApplyYourself” admission application and identifying that you
are a VEF Fellow in the “Additional Information” section. You will need to verify
that you are a Vietnam Education Foundation Fellow.
- Uploading your VEF letter verifying your fellowship status.
- Once the form is uploaded and verified by the Graduate Admissions staff, your application fee will be waived.
