The following list provides either specific agency fellowship listings or various websites listing numerous fellowship opportunities on their own site. We encourage you to apply to those opportunities in which you are eligible.

A

2022 ACLS Scholarship for Healthcare Providers

The Pacific Medical Training is offering its 2020 ACLS Scholarship for Healthcare Providers to support studies, help to complete medical school, and get a head start on a career. They are granting a $1,000 scholarship to the author of the winning essay, and complimentary access to any of their courses for the three runner-ups.

Amelia Earhart Fellowship: Predoctoral Fellowship Program

The predoctoral fellowship program helps talented women, pursuing advanced studies in fields of aerospace-related sciences and engineering.

American Association of University Women (AAUW) American Fellowship

Dissertation and Postdoctoral Fellowship support women scholars who are completing dissertations, planning research leave from accredited institutions, or preparing research for publication.

American Association of University Women (AAUW) International Fellowships

Predoctoral and postdoctoral international fellowships are awarded for full-time study or research in the United States to women who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

American Educational Research Association (AERA): Dissertation Grants

The program seeks to stimulate research on U.S. education issues using data from the large-scale, national and international data sets supported by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), NSF, and other federal agencies, and to increase the number of education researchers using these data sets. Underrepresented racial and ethnic minority researchers are strongly encouraged to apply.

American Educational Research Association (AERA): Minority Fellowships in Education Research

Provides support for doctoral dissertation research. The purposes of the program are to advance education research by outstanding minority graduate students and to improve the quality and diversity of university faculties.

American Indian Graduate Center (AIGC): Academic Year Fellowship

Graduate fellowships are monetary awards made to American Indian and Alaska Native graduate or professional full-time, degree-seeking students, who meet all eligibility criteria.

American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA): Minority Doctoral Fellowships

Awards annual fellowships of $12,000 to full-time minority accounting scholars who demonstrate significant potential to become accounting educators.

American Meteorological Society (AMS): AMS/Industry/Government Graduate Fellowships in the Atmosphere and Related Oceanic and Hydrologic Sciences

Administers an array of graduate fellowships and undergraduate scholarships with the support of its members, corporations, and government agencies nationwide.

American Political Science Association (APSA) Diversity Fellowship Program

(formerly known as the APSA Minority Fellowship Program or MFP) is a fellowship competition for individuals from underrepresented backgrounds applying to or in the early stages of doctoral programs in political science.

American Psychological Association (APA) Scholarships and Fellowships

APA and its affiliate organizations provide a wide range of grants, scholarships, awards with the aim of advancing the science and practice of psychology as a means of understanding behavior and promoting health, education, and human welfare.

American Psychological Association (APA): Minority Fellowship Program

Predoctoral and postdoctoral fellowships provide financial support, professional development activities, and guidance to promising doctoral students and postdoctoral trainees with the goal of moving them toward high achievement in areas related to ethnic minority behavioral health research or services.

American Psychological Association Society for the Psychological Study of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Issues: Malyon-Smith Scholarship Award

It is a fund that annually awards up to $1000 to selected graduate students in psychology to advance research in the psychology of sexual orientation and gender identity.

American Psychological Foundation: Funding for Students

The foundation supports a number of programs aimed at helping graduate students further their education in psychology. Includes the Roy Scrivner Memorial Research Grants for research focused on lesbian, gay and bisexual family psychology and family therapy. And the Wayne F. Placek Grants to support research from all fields of the behavioral and social sciences on any topic related to lesbian, gay or bisexual issues.

American Sociological Association (ASA): Minority Fellowship Program

Predoctoral fellowships are primarily, but not solely, designed to support the development and training of sociologists of color advanced in their Ph.D. program. Areas of interest for former Fellows include social psychology, gender and sexuality, education, medicine and health, inequalities and stratification, race and ethnicity, and more.

Astraea: Lesbian Foundation for Justice

Offers grants to organizations and individuals who are committed to social justice. Programs include the LGBTQ Racial Justice Fund, International Fund, U.S. Fund, Margot Karle Scholarship Fund, and the Global Arts Fund.

Chavez/Eastman/Marshall Dissertation Fellowship at Dartmouth College

Promote student and faculty diversity at Dartmouth, and throughout higher education, by supporting completion of the doctorate by underrepresented minority scholars (including African-American, Latina/o, and Native American scholars) and other graduate scholars with a demonstrated commitment and ability to advance educational diversity.

Chicano Scholarship Fund

Committed to all students of diversity who promote the cultural pride and tradition of the Chicana/o-Latina/o community, the Chicana/o Scholarship Fund recognizes and assists students in their undergraduate and/or graduate education endeavors. One scholarship in the amount of $1500 is awarded to graduate students at the University of Utah.

Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc: Congressional Fellows Program

For recent masters or professional degree graduates. Designed to increase the number of African Americans working as professional staff in the U.S. Congress. The Congressional Fellows Program offers public policy training to young professionals by providing them with an opportunity to work on Capitol Hill.

Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI): Scholarship Awards

CHCI’s scholarship opportunities are afforded to Latino students in the United States who have a history of performing public service-oriented activities in their communities and who demonstrate a desire to continue their civic engagement in the future. Graduate scholarships are awarded to full-time graduate and/or professional students.

East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes for U.S. Graduate Students (EAPSI)

NSF and selected foreign counterpart science and technology agencies sponsor international research institutes for U.S. graduate students in seven East Asia and Pacific locations at times set by the counterpart agencies between June and August each year.

FLAS Scholarship Award: Asian Languages

The Foreign Language Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships are federally funded awards offered through the University of Utah’s Asia Center and Center for Latin American Studies. They provide funding for graduate students who study modern foreign languages and related area studies.

Ford Foundation: Predoctoral, Dissertation, and Postdoctoral Fellowships for Minorities

Through its Fellowship Programs, the Ford Foundation seeks to increase the diversity of the nation’s college and university faculties by increasing their ethnic and racial diversity, to maximize the educational benefits of diversity, and to increase the number of professors who can and will use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students.

Geological Society of America (GSA): Research Grants Program

The primary role of the GSA research grants program is to provide partial support of master’s and doctoral thesis research in the geological sciences for graduate students enrolled in universities in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Central America. GSA strongly encourages women, minorities, and persons with disabilities to participate fully in this grants program.

Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada: Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship (Masterís program)

Scholarships are available to upper-division undergraduate students or graduate students. For minority students of public administration, (governmental) accounting, finance, political science, economics or business administration (with a specific focus on government or nonprofit management).

HHMI Hanna H. Gray Fellows Program

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) seeks to increase diversity in the biomedical research community. The biggest challenges in science call for diverse perspectives and original thinking. Through the Hanna H. Gray Fellows Program, HHMI will recruit and retain individuals from groups underrepresented in the life sciences. The program will support early career scientists with the potential to become leaders in academic research. Through their successful careers, HHMI Hanna Gray Fellows will inspire future generations of scientists from America’s diverse talent pool.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF)

Offers a wide range of scholarship opportunities for students at a variety of educational level. Students with Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status are eligible for an HSF General Scholarship.

IBM: Ph.D. Fellowships

The IBM Ph.D. Fellowship Awards Program is an intensely competitive worldwide program, which honors exceptional Ph.D. students who have an interest in solving problems that are important to IBM and fundamental to innovation in many academic disciplines and areas of study. The IBM Ph.D. Fellowship Awards program also supports our long-standing commitment to workforce diversity. IBM values diversity in the workplace and encourages nominations of women, minorities and all who contribute to that diversity.

Immigrants Rising: Scholarships & Fellowships for Immigrant Students

Provides a list of scholarships and fellowships available for immigrant students attending graduate and professional schools. Scholarships and fellowships do not require proof of U.S. citizenship or legal permanent residency.

Korea Foundation: Fellowships for Field Research

Doctoral and postdoctoral fellowships are available to support research in the humanities, social sciences, arts or culture on a Korea-related topic.

Korean-American Scholarship Foundation (KASF): KASF Scholarships

Provides scholarships to Korean American students from a variety of disciplines and educational levels.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) Resource Center at the University of Utah

Annual scholarships are awarded every Spring semester to promising undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Utah. Students must have involvement in LGBTQ* cultural/academic organizations, participation in LGBTQ* school-wide and community activities and/or employment.

L’Oreal USA Fellowships for Women in Science Program

Offers five postdoctoral fellowships to U.S.-based women researchers at the beginning of their scientific careers.

 

M

Marilyn Yarbrough Dissertation/Teaching Fellowship: Kenyon College

The Fellow is expected to write the dissertation and to teach one course each semester, usually in the Fellow’s general research area at Kenyon College at Gambier, Ohio.

Microsoft Research Graduate Women’s Scholarship

The Microsoft Research Graduate Women’s Scholarship is a one-year scholarship program for outstanding women graduate students and is designed to help increase the number of women pursuing a PhD. This program supports women in the second year of their graduate studies. Women who are interested in this scholarship must apply during first year of graduate studies. Scholarships are granted by Microsoft Research at the discretion of Microsoft.

Morris K. Udall Scholarship and Excellence in National Environmental Policy: Native American Congressional Internship Program

Provides a 10-week summer internship in Washington, D.C., for Native American and Alaska Native undergraduate or graduate students who wish to learn more about the federal government and issues affecting Indian Country.

National Consortium for Graduate Degrees for Minorities in Engineering and Science, Inc. (GEM): Graduate Fellowship Programs

GEM awards three fellowships in the following levels and disciplines: M.S. Engineering, Ph.D. Engineering, Ph.D. Science.

National Physical Science Consortium (NPSC): Graduate Fellowships in the Science & Engineering

This opportunity is designed to assist scholars who are women and other minorities underrepresented in science and engineering.

National Women’s Studies Association (NWSA): Scholarships and Awards

Provides various scholarships and awards to graduate students. Includes the NWSA Graduate Scholarship, Lesbian Caucus Award, NWSA Women of Color Caucus-Frontiers Student Essay Award.

NOAA/ U.S. Department of Commerce: The Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarship Program

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarship Program recognizes outstanding scholarship and encourages independent graduate level research — particularly by female and minority students — in oceanography, marine biology and maritime archaeology.

Semiconductor Research Corporation: Fellowships and Scholarships

One doctoral fellowship through the Nanoelectronics Research Initiative (NRI), the SRC NRI/Hans J. Coufal Fellowship. The GRC Graduate Fellowship Program (GFP) supports about 35 Fellowships each year. The GRC Master’s Scholarship Program (MSP), targeting underrepresented minorities and women supports about 12 Scholarships each year.

The International Dissertation Research Fellowship (IDRF) Program supports the next generation of scholars in the humanities and humanistic social sciences pursuing research that advances knowledge about non-US cultures and societies.

Spencer Foundation: Dissertation and Postdoctoral Fellowships for Research Related to Education

The Spencer Foundation provides individual fellowships to doctoral students at the dissertation stage and to scholars engaged in postdoctoral work. Both programs support research related to education and are administered by the National Academy of Education (NAEd).

University of California: President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program

The University of California President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program was established in 1984 to encourage outstanding women and minority Ph.D. recipients to pursue academic careers at the University of California.

United Negro College Fund (UNCF)/ Merck Science Initiative

Graduate Science Research Dissertation Fellowships will help African American graduate students complete coursework, conduct research, and prepare the dissertation required for a doctoral degree in the biomedically relevant life or physical sciences and engineering. Postdoctoral Science Research Fellowships are intended to provide support to African American post-graduate students to obtain postdoctoral training and to prepare for a career in biomedical research.

U.S. Department of Defense (DoD): National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship Program

Fellowships are awarded to applicants who will pursue a doctoral degree in, or closely related to, an area of DoD interest within one of the fifteen disciplines listed on their website.

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (NIH): Funding Opportunities and Notices

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (NIH): Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Awards for Individual Predoctoral Fellowships to Promote Diversity in Health-Related Research

The purpose of this individual predoctoral research training fellowship is to improve the diversity of the health-related research workforce by supporting the training of predoctoral students from groups that have been shown to be underrepresented. Such candidates include individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, individuals with disabilities, and individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds.

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (NIH), Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ): Research Training Programs

Provides an array of intramural and extramural predoctoral and postdoctoral educational, research infrastructure and career development grants and opportunities in health services research.

U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Doctoral Dissertation Research Grant Program

The Doctoral Dissertation Research Grant program helps eligible doctoral students complete dissertations on housing and urban development issues.

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency: STAR Fellowships for Graduate Environmental Study

EPA’s STAR graduate fellowship program supports masters and doctoral candidates in environmental studies.

The Wenner-Gren Foundation Fellowships

Offers four different programs (Dissertation Fieldwork Grants, Engaged Anthropology Grant, Wadsworth International Fellowships, Wadsworth African) to support domestic and international students in the field of anthropology.

Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation: Dissertation Fellowship in Women’s Studies

The WW Women’s Studies Fellowships support the final year of dissertation writing for Ph.D. candidates in the humanities and social sciences whose work addresses topics of women and gender in interdisciplinary and original ways.

Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation: Religion & Ethics Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships

Provided to Ph.D. candidates at American institutions located in the United States who will complete their dissertations during the fellowship year.
